Two die in fatal accident at Akim Asafo Bonsu

Two people traveling to participate in the presidential and legislative elections on December 7 were killed in a fatal accident along the Akim Asafo Bonsu section of the Accra Kumasi highway.

The accident occurred on Saturday December 5, 2020, around 11:00 p.m.

Sources say a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter bus driver with registration number GS 5523-17 with passengers on board was traveling from Accra to Kumasi, however, upon reaching the Asafo-Pechi junction, he tried to overtake an unidentified truck, but collided with a truck.

The collision reportedly forced the bus to turn sharply in the opposite direction when it collided with another Mercedes-Benz bus with registration number GW 73 24-20 with passengers on board.

Two people died instantly. The occupants of the two cars were injured, according to the Eastern District Police Command Acting Public Relations Officer Sgt. Frances Jumado.

He said staff from the Ghana National Ambulance Service from Sohom and Kwaping rushed to the scene to help transport the injured to government hospitals in Kebe and Enres for treatment.

Instead, the bodies were taken to the morgue at Soham Government Hospital for identification, preservation, and autopsy.

The damaged cars were also taken to the police station for examination to facilitate the investigation.
