The residents of a suburb in Takoradi, a working and repairing hub called Kokompe woke up on a sad note. Kokompe in Takoradi is an industrial hub where group of artisans, mechanics , carpenters , welders, electricians ,plumber and other spare parts dealers have been conveyed to work.
At around 2am Tuesday morning 25th of August 2020 owners of a one stop mechanic shop received a call notifying them of their shop been on fire. Residents did their best to contact the Ghana Fire Service before the arrival of the workers in the mechanic shop.
Speaking on Connect FM a Media General owned radio station. The Ghana Fire service told Paa Kwesi Simpson the morning show host "Omanbapa" that although the cause of the fire is still under investigation but several damages have been done.
The mechanic shop is on record one of the biggest in the industrial hub. It consists of mechanical workers from electricians to car sprayers. The leader of the mechanic shop told Paa Kwesi that about 8 cars have been burnt into ashes. Apart from the 8 cars, several cars have other parts doors, windscreen , tyres burnt which needs to be replaced. A big container made of brand new spare parts imported from USA is also reported to be burnt down. The main workshop were all working tools are been kept has metamorphosed into ashes.
Among the cars burn were Hyundai , Toyota Camry etc. As at now it is unknown whether those burnt cars have comprehensive insurance cover. According to the leader, a lady who brought her car for electrical repairs collapsed upon hearing the news.
This is a shop much investments have been made over years . All these investments and achievements were burnt in a split of a second on Tuesday morning. The Ghana fire service and the Ghana police service as still doing investigations all the outcome , decisions and causes will be reported here after police investigation reports.
