Reasons Why Sports Betting Can Be Classified As A Sin According To Scriptures

In this current generation, a whole lost of activities that were once prohibited and abhorred by the church, are now being considered normal.

An example of such traits and act is sports betting. There have been a lot of debates and arguments about this matter. Some people believe it's a sin while others think it's a form of business.

Just as most people share, scriptures didn't emphatically state that sports betting is a sin but the scriptures below should communicate to every child of God that, sport betting is a sin and strongly disliked by God.

1. Gambling on the garment of Jesus.

Mark 15:24 (KJV) And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots upon them, what every man should take.

This was a form of disgrace to the image of Jesus Christ. Hence God will not affirm such an act. Scriptures also makes us understand that, we should put on Christ as a garment. So gambling in this current stated (as a child of God) means casting lot on the garment of Jesus just as the soldiers did to Jesus Christ over 2000 years ago.

2. A counterfeit or stealing of the prophetic anointing that God has promised to give His people in the last days.

Act 2:17 (KJV) And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

In the last days bible says that, God will pour out his spirit upon all flesh and the young men and women shall prophesy. The literal understanding of the word prophecy means predictions. So in the last days God will make his sons an daughters predict accurate things about the kingdom of God to God's people.

Now, instead of predicting or prophesying the things of God, satan is stealing people's attention off this spiritual awakening and diverting it to sports betting; which is against God's will for humanity.

3. Gambling may not be a sin but a weight.

Hebrews 12:1 (KJV) Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

Even if you want to still justify Sports gambling (betting) as not being sinful, you have to understand that it may be a weight which God wants you to put aside. Weights are things that takes more of your attention, time, imaginations, thoughts and others, aside God.

Other misconceptions that people have which compel them to bet is that, they assume everything about getting money is gambling; including the activities of the banking sectors, businesses and other financial transactions. They believe that sports betting is not different from these transactions.

This is a misconceptions because the word gambling itself has different meanings. At a point, it means to be in a state of wondering what decision to make when you have lots of options towards what you are engaged in. This is what bankers, businesses and other legal financial agencies do.

The second explanation of the word means a game. This is where sport betting is categorized. So sports betting is very different from businesses and what banks do.

The standard of the Lord stands sure. Sports betting is either a sin or weight and God dislikes it.

The question you should ask yourself is that, when sports betting wasn't in existence, weren't you living? If yes, then why do you want to put your whole life on it?
