Ato Forson Calling President To Chase Those Who Stake Soccer Betting In Ghana? (Opinion)
Cassiel Ato-Forson is hopping mad at the Akufo-Addo administration for not banning betting but has rather intimated that it would impose taxes to wheedle as much as GHc300 million from the sector.
The former Deputy Finance Minister cannot bring himself to accept the fact that betting is morally reprehensible and same ought not to be promoted in a country where morality is a topmost priority.
Sometimes when one cannot get anything negative to say about a good delivery, he goes to ludicrous heights to propose ideas that are riddled with logical incongruities.
Sports betting has been with us for a couple of years. Many people, both young and old, engage in these to make money. Betting companies have provided employments for many people as well.
He cannot advocate the cessation of betting and leave gambling in the form of lotteries. Lotteries and sports betting are inseparable siblings which must either thrive or suffer together.
Why hasn’t Ato-Forson campaigned against lotteries all these years but now sees the need to use the morality card to wage a war against sports betting? What have those who bet these days done to Ato-Forson and his NDC?
This is akin to saying that the West African Dwarf goat is satanic but the West African Long-Legged type is angelic when they are all goats reared in Ghana.
Ghana would be doomed to have such a person walking the corridors of our finance ministry with such a mindset. Ghana can never progress using the hands of such empty minds.
