Peter Mireku, the Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of Ghana Gaming Commission, has insisted that there will be no way sports betting will ever be banned in Ghana, sounds like a good news to the gamers.

In an interview with on Happy 98.9FM, Mr. Peter Mireku defended the gaming community in the country after Ranking Member on Parliament’s Committee on Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson called on the government to ban sports betting rather than imposing taxes on the sector.

The government in its 2021 Budget presented to Parliament estimated an annual revenue loss of over GHS 300 million due to leakages in the gaming industry.

Dr Cassiel Ato Forson proposal was due to what was stated in the budget and also for the reason that, it's destroying the youths in the country. Some Ghanaians who weren't happy about his calling descended heavily on him, it seem Ato Forson has no idea of it important on the country's economy.

However, the CEO of the Gaming Commission Mr. Peter Mireku himself, has jumped in defense of the gaming community. According to him, sports betting can never be banned in the country because it generates millions in revenue to the government.

"This money is contributed into the consolidated account for development”, he disclosed.

He however agreed on the introduction of more regulations that will not only protect the stakeholders of sports betting companies but also generate more revenue to the government.
