There is a saying which goes that, "No matter your profession, a teacher taught".
Teachers in Ghana are not satisfied with the way they are being treated, they believe that they deserve more than what has been offered to them in terms of salary and other condition of service.
It is very clear that teacher's are being maltreated in Ghana which is driving young men and women from the position. Even at the teacher training colleges, the allowances they take cannot taker for them as compared to that of the nursing training colleges.
It is obvious that Nurses in Ghana earns more than teachers, the questions that belongs to the gods is that "teachers and nurses who are more important"
Teacher trainees who are doing their national service takes Gh¢559.00 per month whiles nursing trainees takes close to Gh¢700 per month which is very unfair to the teaching profession.
Certificate Nurses takes home Ghc750 per month
Diploma Nurses takes home Gh¢900-1600 per month
Degree Nurses takes home Gh¢1600-2000 per month.
The highest a degree teacher can take as a teacher is Ghc2500 even if he or she has 100 years of teaching experience.
Research revealed that teachers at SHS earns from Ghc808.68 to Ghc3,957.86 per month.
To summarize all these, a professional nurse at the lower grade earns between Ghc2000-3000 per month while those at the senior level earns between Ghc3000-5000 a month.
Nurses at the Directors level earns Ghc8000.
On the other hand, professional teachers at the lower grade earns between Ghc1800-2000, whiles those at Grade II takes between Ghc2000-25000.
The very highest a teacher takes home is Ghc3500.
It is high time authorities revise the salaries of the Ghanaian teachers, in fact they deserve better and should be treated better than any other profession.
