Godfred Bokpin, an Economist and Professor of Finance, says workers in this country deserve more than what they are being paid presently.
He made this statement Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) Investment Forum held at the University of Ghana on Wednesday, June 29.
According to Bokpin, comparing the minimum wage workers in the country receive to other countries, Ghana is nowhere near the minimum, and negotiators should go with data when going for negotiations.
“Our minimum wage is nowhere near minimum at all. The workers deserve more than this. Perhaps when we are going for negotiations, we should go with data for comparison,”
The minimum daily wage of Ghana, which was initially GHS 12.53, was revised this year in January to GHS 13.53
Given this, Prof Godfred Bokpin says it is too low, and something must be done about it because the minimum wage is nowhere near what workers are to derive.
