Dr. George Akufo Dampare.
In a statement signed by Mr. Eugene Arhin, Director of communications at the presidency, the president asked the present IGP, Mr Oppong Boanuh to proceed on terminal leave on 1st August 2021 pending retirement on 7th October 2020.
The acting IGP however begins his work on the 1st of August 2021.
Ghanaians received this news with mixed reactions; on one side a lot of Ghanaians believed the president made the best choice considering the track record of the newly appointed Dr. Akufo Dampare.
On another side some Ghanaians believed that DCOP Kofi Boakye, former Ashanti regional police commander has really distinguished himself and should have been given the nod this time around.
It is however worthy of note that even those who believed DCOP Kofi Boakye should have been given the chance still "agree with" the president on his choice.
DCOP Kofi Boakye
The president in the same letter announced Mr. Isaac Kofi Egyir as the newly appointed acting Director General of the Prisons Service who takes over from Mr.Patrick Darko Missah on 1st August 2021.
Nana Akufo Addo further congratulated the newly appointed leaders and wished them well in their newly assigned roles.
