The sweeping influx of public conversations and criticisms about the decision of the government which has been approved by Parliament to pay presidential and vice presidential spouses has elevated to a clear level after the Emoluments Committee have reported to the media the salary structure of the top four citizens of the country.
From Joy News reports, the Emoluments Committee Report has released the salary structure of the president and his wife (known as the first lady), and the vice president and his wife (also known as the second lady) as of June, 2020. The breakdown of the report is as follows:
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo is paid a total amount of forty-seven thousand, two hundred and seventy seven Ghana Cedis (GH¢47,277.00). The first lady of the Republic, Mrs Rebecca Akuffo-Addo is paid salaries to the tune of thirty three thousand, two hundred and seventy Ghana cedis (GH¢ 33,270.00).
Similarly, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is paid a monthly salary of thirty nine thousand, three hundred and ninety seven Ghana cedis (GH¢ 39,397.00)whilst his beloved wife Samira Bawumia, the second lady of the republic is paid salaries to the tune of thirty two thousand, eighth hundred and thirty two Ghana cedis (GH¢32,832.00).
This has caught up the attention of many Ghanaians especially on social media and many have got diverse views about the trend of salaries allotted by the Emoluments Committee to the #4MoreToDoMore New Patriotic Party government leaders.
