COP Kofi Boakye has issued a statement expressed complete disbelief towards some demands celebrities made at the meeting between creative art industry players and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

The meeting went on at the Police Headquarters in Accra on Wednesday, November 10 2021, had in attendance some senior police officers, including the Director-General in charge of Legal and Prosecution for the Ghana Police Service, COP Kofi Boakye as well as IGP Dr. George Akufo Dampare.
At the meeting, some celebrities expressed their sentiments about maltreatment and inappropriate treatment from some of the police personnel.
According to them, they should have some privileges that goes in line with their status as celebrities in the country. However, COP Kofi Boakye thinks their sentiments do not hold water describing it as hogwash and saying out that none was above the law.
“I want to say that the sense of entitlement of celebrities is becoming overwhelming. And I just do not get it. Some of the things that you do are disgusting, truth be told. If we cannot arrest pickpockets, we cannot apprehend armed robbers. No one is above the law. When you do the unlawful, and the law has to deal with you, we will. So, that it will deter others. He made his point clear to them.
“If you want privileges, what freedom do you require? That you can pull a weapon anytime and brandish it on social media or create fear, and nothing would be done to you? No, that is not possible. We cannot do that.”
COP Kofi Boakye also added that there is the need to specify who a celebrity is and who deserves that title. He made that statement to quiz them.
“Who is a celebrity? What is the operational definition of the word celebrity? I think we should get that because I am confused. We are confused. Is it that when you shows up in one film, or you record one song, you fit to be called a celebrity or what? And you see, because we are confused, we do not know what you want.” He quizzed them again with those questions.
What are your thoughts on the issues raised by the senior police officers COP Kofi Boakye. Please drop your opinion at the comment section thank you.
