Hon. Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu was born in Asante Akyem Agogo in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. He started his Secondary education at Kumasi High School for his GCE Ordinary Level Certificate and Prempeh College for GCE Advance Level Certificate, all in Kumasi. He then got admission to University of Ghana and obtained a B.Sc in Administration (Accounting Option). He then did his course with the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG) qualifying as a Chartered Accountant.
He worked in various positions with Ghana Airways, Volta River Authority (VRA). He also worked as a Senior Consultant on Computer-Systems and as Finance Manager of Ananse Systems. Prior to being a member of Parliament, he was a partner in Asante Wiredu and Associates, an accounting firm.
A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hon. Baah-Wiredu won the 2000 election to represent the people of Asante Akyem North. Under the Kufour Administration, he was Minister of Local Government and Rural Development from 2001 to 2003. From 2003 to 2005, he was Minister of Education, Youth and Sports and subsequently became the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning from 2005 till September 2008 when he passed on.
He was described as one of the best Finance Ministers and his death hit many who loved and followed his work and trajectory.
Married with six children, Hon Baa Wiredu died in South Africa where he was receiving treatment after an ill health on September 24, 2008.
