Teachers angry with Government over lack of PPEs.

Some teachers in some basic schools in Ghana have expressed their disgust at Ghana Education Service, and by extension Government, for failing to provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) for them as they reopened today.

Information available in the media has revealed that some basic schools in the Western Region that reopened today do not have PPEs as promised by Government.

Basic schools throughout Ghana reopened today, Monday, June 29, 2020, for final year students to prepare for their Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE). The schools were supposed to be provided with PPEs before they reopened. This was to help prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus which is ravaging the world.

However, checks in some districts reveal nothing like that has happened, at least, for now.

In the Shama District, our checks reveal that schools such as the Anapansu DA Basic School and Shama Model Basic School have not been provided with the required PPEs.

One teacher who confirmed the development, reiterated the fear of teachers on the absence of the PPEs in schools.

He said "Basic schools in a rural area in Shama do not have the basic PPEs as promised. I just spoke a colleague at Shama Model Basic in Shama town too. And the same problem persists".

The teacher further retorted whether the authorities are waiting for something bad to happen before they make the right decisions.

" Are authorities waiting for us to get infected b4 they supply the PPEs?" he asked.

The situation is no different in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal, where there is not a single veronica bucket at the Tarkwa Tamso Anglican Basic School.

"I'm here at the Tarkwa Tamso Basic MA School, and I can't see even a single veronica bucket here. I have fine round to try an see if I can find, and to my shock, I can't find one," a Reporter said.
