EC Officials registering applicants at 'illegal' center

The Electoral Commission is undertaking a registration of applicants for the ongoing voter identification card at an unapproved and ungazetted location. Early this morning, officials of the EC begun this discrete exercise at the blind side of political parties at the Holy Child College of Education, Sekondi, Western Region. A whole auditorium have been prepared to register person.

One of the applicants who felt it was an illegality took videos and photos of the exercise to draw public attention to it, and possibly a suspension of the exercise.

As it stands today, the EC had only granted access to eligible applicants at the Senior High School [who are confined due to the COVID-19 restriction on academic administration]. No special arrangement have been made for tertiary education in Ghana.

A Communication Director for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kirk Mensah who received intel on this 'illegal' operation stormed the area to gather more evidence so he could challenge the process.

According to him, the operation remains illegal as no political party has been made aware of the center.

"This is not a registration center. This is not a special area which has been agreed upon by the stakeholders in the just ended IPAC. This is wrong" he said.

Several attempts have been made to reach the Western Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, Madam Angelina Tagoe to get some response or clarification on the matter but to no avail.

Watch the video below of the said 'illegal' registration center.
