Due to the exponential rise in cases of Covid 19 in Ghana our fragile health system is been threatened and the Ashanti Region which has the second number of cases Nationwide and the highest number of deaths in Ghana is no exception.
The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital,South Suntreso Government hospital and the Kumasi South Hospitals were earmarked by the Ghana Health Service as treatment and isolation centers for sick Covid 19 patients are almost full.
A Positive patient who visited the South Suntreso Government hospital in the region was turned away by authorities of the hospital because of the lack of space. He then decided to use the Kumasi South Hospital but was again asked to self isolate at home. I live in a single room with my family and I can't self isolate at home. He sadly said!
Medical supervisor at one of the isolation centers said the facilities are almost full and any delay by the health regulatory body will lead to chaos. We have had turn down many request by patients to isolate and get treated at our facilities because of space.
In the case of the Kumasi South Hospital normal wards are been used as isolation centers for COVID19 patients.
