Prime Suspected car thief busted in Kumasi

In Kumasi

a man was accused of being a part of a car-robbery gang, police confirm.

In a confirmed clampdown of these illegal activities in the metropolis on Tuesday, Alex Owusu, 39, was detained by police in the district of Suntreso on 11 August

Investigations reveal that the perpetrator recruits taxi services from neighboring towns on the grounds of visits by his ill mothers in Kumasi according to ASP Godwin Ahianyo, Director of Public Relations at the Ashanti Regional Police Command.

By the road, the perpetrator also persuaded the victims to wash the car in a bay while escorting him to buy spare parts for his faulty excavator at Suame Magazine.

"By that time, the perpetrator leaves the victims and claims he is taking money away from the bank; he just takes the ignition key from the bay officer for him to return to the laundry and drives the car away," ASP Ahianyo recalled.


Owusu was detained with the help of police at the central Kasoa District Command, according to information, the police spokesman added.

The perpetrator even took the police into the possession of eight of the Suntreso District Command 's vehicles during questioning.

Since then, he has been detained and helped with research.
