Images are very invaluable. That’s why some gallery centres across the globe gather many attractive creative pieces and house them under one roof for people to pay to watch.
In the case of children with autism, there are images that serve as a therapeutic and transformative force to improve their living conditions. Although they might be physically challenged, they can best relate to these images.
With the guidance of a credentialed art therapist, autistic children can ‘decode’ the nonverbal messages, symbols and metaphors often found in these art forms, which should lead to a better understanding of their feelings and behaviour so they can move on to resolve deeper issues.
Some may perhaps find difficulty decoding these images but autistic children will easily decode and make more meanings to these images. Again, when they are given the opportunity to draw themselves, they bring to bear their psychologically and emotional expressions through creativity.
It is just wonderful and pleasing. These art therapies can include drawing, painting, collage, colouring or sculpting.
If you ever watched Ishaan of ‘Like Stars on Earth’ fame, he was able to communicate his emotions and psychological expressions through his creative artwork.
