Origins of the Asantes - Read More About it

The Asantes migrated from a place to present day Ghana. Read their history below.

The Asante were believed to have migrated from North Africa or somewhere in the east. Later, they settled in the ancient Ghana empire.

In modern Ghana, the Asante were said to have originally settled in Adanse land, west of the lake Bosomtwe.

There, they built a settlement known as Asantemanso. From Asantemanso, the various clans or family groups migrated to found new states like Kwaman, Kaase, Tafo, Amakom, Ejisu and Mampong.

Early rulers of the Asante were Twum and Antwi, who ruled together, Kobina Amanfi and Oti Akenten. Oti Akenten built a capital at Kwaman. When he died in 1660, he was succeeded by his nephew Obiri Yeboah. Obiri Yeboah was killed in a war against the Dormaa. His immediate successor was Osei Tutu I.

The above is a brief of history of the Asantes. This proves that they were not true inhabitants of Ghana but migrated from some place to here.
