Kareem Waris Olamilekan, AKA, Waspa, may only be 14 years old, but he has already shown that talent knows no bounds. He's a gifted young man who dethroned the art world with his hyper-realistic portraits and deft sketches.
Kareem's mother sells soft drinks on the highway, while his father sells auto parts. Kareem's mother says, "We don't always have enough money for the basics, but we try." We have to color under the light of a torch on occasion. “When I draw at night, I use a flashlight because my sister is sleeping next to me. And there are moments when there is absolutely no power in the building.
Kareem won the “Taiwan's Chou Ta-Kuan Cultural and Education Foundation award” in Taiwan, beating out 2,723 other competitors worldwide. As a result of this, he was able to meet Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen, who praised him for his incredible artistic abilities. Olamilekan's art is primarily composed of charcoal and pencil.
Kareem uses his realistic art to try to convey the beauty of Africa to the rest of the world. Poverty-stricken children refer to him as the "little artist Robin Hood," since he uses his creative ability to create enticing works in exchange for food to combat poverty and feed the slum's hungry residents.
Waris revealed that in the future, he wants to see himself as an artist whose works will be exhibited in museums and galleries. Despite all the hardships in his life, Kareem never stops working to improve his skills and to provide for his family.
