History of the name "BECHEM"- A town in the Ahofo Region.

Bechem is one of the oldest towns in the former Bring Ahafo Region. With the split of the region into the 1: Ahafo region, 2: Bono region and the 3: Bono East region, Bechem now finds itself in the Ahafo region.

Bechem sounds familiar in the ears of Ghanaians and outsiders for one thing or the other.

Bechem cannot be left out when it comes to academic excellence in Ghana. It is the home of the popular Catholic college of education, St. Joseph's College of Education (JOSCO), the Bechem school for the Deaf, the Bechem Business College-BEBUSCO, the Presbyterian SHS which produced Dr Gideon Brako, an astute economist in the Nana Addo led government, and many other educational institutions.

It is also the home of Bechem United football club.

Bechem however gained negative fame when it was tagged "the center of witchcraft" in Ghana.

Bechem is the Municipal capital of the Tano South Municipal. It is also the home of Nana Akoto Gyeabuor, the Paramount Chief of the Bechem Traditional Area.

History has it that Asantehene's hunters used to hunt somewhere around Techiman and surrounding areas. After hunting, they used to meet at Bechem for sharing their hunt. This brought about the name "BECHEM" meaning a sharing ground.
