Although King Arthur and his Knights of the Roundtable never toured the English countryside in search of the Holy Grail, Tintagel Castle, which is often associated with the legend, is a genuine place. Similar myths and stories exist in real-world sites, from the ancient Greek gods above Mount Olympus to the kappa animals of Tono, Japan, and are open to visitors.
1. The Ruins of Troy
Troy, a prominent setting in Homer's epic poem "The Iliad," was long thought to be a work of pure fiction. Although there is some disagreement about the sites and events that inspired many of Homer's stories, most agree that the 4,000-year-old ruins of Troy can be found in Anatolia, modern-day Turkey.
The site, which is only roughly 650 feet in diameter, is mostly made up of stone walls and building foundations.
2. Sherwood Forest
The forest is part of the approximately 1,000-acre Sherwood Forest National Nature Reserve in Nottinghamshire, England. Major Oak, a 1,000-year-old oak tree that appears prominently in mythology as one of Robin Hood's hideouts, may be found on the grounds.
3. Mount Olympus
Mount Olympus, at approximately 10,000 feet above sea level, is one of Europe's most conspicuous peaks. The 12 Olympian gods and goddesses, including Aphrodite, Poseidon, and Zeus, dwelt atop Mount Olympus, according to Greek mythology. The breathtaking mountain is located on the border of Greece and Macedonia and, despite its isolated location in comparison to other major tourist spots in Greece, it is easily accessible to visitors.
4. Tintagel Castle
The remains of Tintagel Castle, which stand on Tintagel Island in North Cornwall, England, and have deep ties to the legend of King Arthur, were built in the 13th century. Geoffrey of Monmouth, a twelfth-century writer best known for popularizing the Arthurian legend, claimed that the Tintagel location was the birthplace of King Arthur, leading Richard of Cornwall to build the castle. Visitors to Tintagel Castle today can take tours of the cliffside ruins and explore Merlin's Cave on the beach below.
The above mentioned 4 top Mythical places are all available for great view.
