Farmers in Broto, a village in the West Gonja District of Savannah region on 10th of February, 2021 are complaining about how frequently Fulani herdsmen usually invades their farms with their cattle ending up destroying their crops in the process.
As a result of this destruction, farmers in this particular community are threatening to divert their attention to charcoal burning since cattle don't eat charcoal hence can't destroy them.
Speaking to Nkilgi FM in Bole, Mr Salia, a farmer from the above mentioned community affirmed the decision of his colleagues farmers to venture into felling of trees to burn charcoal since animals don't feed on charcoal.
He continued by expressing his sadness towards the traditional authorities in the area because, whenever such a case of destruction of crops by cattle and the Fulani herdsmen of the cattle responsible for such destruction are sent to the traditional authorities, this herdsmen ends up winning the case and always the traditional authorities are always in favor of them.
Mr Salia concluded, by saying it is worrying traditional authorities are always in favor of the Fulani herdsmen and therefore, they the farmers from Broto in the West Gonja District of the Savannah region of Ghana are appealing to the higher authorities in country to come to their aid in dealing with with this issue of destruction of farm produce by Fulani herdsmen with their cattle.
