Ghanaians have massively reacted and descended on President Akufo-Addo's government for the latest fuel price increase. Fuel price goes up again in Ghana today, Sunday, January 16, 2022.

Total Oil who are a key component of the Ghanaian fuel economy and have got numerous branches all over the country has increased the prices of their fuel today, Sunday, January 16, 2022, and that has caused Ghanaians to react bitterly and blame the Akufo-Addo led government for bad governance which is bringing about the frequent increase in fuel prices.

Total Oil has increased the price of diesel from 6cedis 85 pesewas per liter to 7cedis 05 pesewas per liter as well as increasing the price of petrol from 6cedis 80 pesewas per liter to 6cedis 99 pesewas per liter effective today Sunday.

In Percentage terms, the price of petrol has seen a percentage rise of 2.79 percent per liter while the price of diesel has seen a percentage rise of 2.91 percent per liter.

Thblamee upward movement of the prices comes after the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) predicted a few weeks ago that the prices of fuel will go up in the coming weeks. COPEC were expecting the price of petrol to go up by 3.7 percent and the price of diesel to go up by 2.5 percent.

However, in nominal terms, COPEC expected the ex-pump price of petrol to move up by 24 percent as well as the ex-pump price of diesel to move up by 17 percent.

“The average surge for both products in nominal terms is 20 pesewas representing 3.1%. Some Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) could increase their prices less than the 20 pesewas increase due to competition,” COPEC said in a statement released on Monday, January 3.

Ghanaians upon seeing this news had a lot to say to the Akufo-Addo led government. A lot of them expressed their disappointment in the President and said it's not only fuel prices that are going up but everything is also expensive in the country now.
