Ghana's Stock Debt Increases To GHS291.6billion. See Details

Today being the day the president and the Parliament set for the reading of the 2021 budget, the caretaker for the Finance Ministry, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has given a detail on the debt of the country. According to the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Ghana's debt stock is GHS291.6 billion as at 2020 December.

“The total public debt has increased from GHS122 billion, which is 69% of GDP to GHS291.6 billion, which is 76.1% of GDP, as of the end of December 2020,” he said when he presented the 2021 budget statement in Parliament".

With regards to what he read, the increment of the debt is due some non-recurrent burdens. He also made it clear that of not these expenditures, the debt of the country would be GHS139.9billion which is 58.7% of GDP.

“Mr. Speaker, pursuing the GHS100 billion Ghana CARES Obaatan pa programme allows us to address the challenges and also seize the opportunities created by COVID-19 for socio-economic transformation. This programme will foster closer collaboration with the private sector, labour, faith-based organizations and development partners to complement efforts in the revitalization and growth agenda". He added.
