President Akufo-Addo to host Presidential Business Summit 2021


The Summit, a annual calendar event, is organized by the Ministry of Trade and Industry in collaboration with the Office of the President and selected Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to provide a platform for structured dialogue between government and the private sector in key areas of interest in the private sector.


The theme of the Summit is "Public-Private Dialogue on the Role of the Private Sector in Ghana's Post-COVID Recovery" and His Excellency the President will deliver a speech.


The rapporteurs are World Bank Group Country Director Pierre Frank Laporte, Senior Advisor to President Yau Osafo-Sorryo, Minister of Trade and Industry Alan Kierematen, Minister of Finance Ken Ofori Atta, Minister of Energy Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (MP), Minister of State Finance - Charles Adu-Boahen and Governor of the Bank of Ghana - Dr. Ernest Addison.


Discussions with the private sector in plenary sessions will focus on five (5) overarching themes, which include: tax and non-financial incentives to support private sector production and development; Currency regulation and stability; Access to finance and cost of capital; Energy prices, availability, access and reliability; and support for local industry through government procurement and local content regulations.

Followed by a groundbreaking session for the deepening of 7 (seven) economic sectors, including agriculture and agribusiness; Production; Construction and mining; Financial services; information and communication technology; Tourism and gastronomy; and transportation and logistics


Discussions at the Summit will be incorporated into the government's policy framework for private sector development, including but not limited to the 2022 budget declaration and economic policy.


The outcome of the Presidential Economic Summit is the Ghana Business Agreement, which will identify specific priority areas of government intervention in support of private sector development.
