One Village One Dam Is Under A Different Ministry, I Cannot Take Accounts For It – Minister

The One Village, One Dam program of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration has been characterized as an aspiration rather than something the government aims to accomplish during its term in office, according to Minister of Food and Agriculture Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto.

Dr. Afriyie Akoto claimed that the phrase "One Village, One Dam" is only the government's vision for the future of the nation in an interview with TV3 that GhanaWeb was watching. "(One Village, One Dam) is a utopian idea because all Ghanaian farmers cannot have access to irrigation.

Installing irrigation will cost more than Ghana's GDP (on every farm). "It is a slogan, and a slogan is where you want to be, (One Village, One Dam). You have to start somewhere, whether it takes 10 years or 20 years. And you manage to convince others that this is what you are attempting to achieve," he remarked.

The minister added that because the One District On Dam project is not under his control, he is unaware of how many dams the government has so far built. "The Ministry of Special Initiatives, a distinct ministry, oversees the One Village One Dam (project). It was not carried out under my supervision. Therefore, I am unable to explain it, he said.

As part of the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Program, the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led administration announced its intention to build the dams under the One Village One Dam Initiative when it took office in 2017. (IPEP). The plan covers 56 districts in the 5 Northern Regions and focuses on rural and underdeveloped populations; each district is expected to include 10 dams.
