Former President John Dramani Mahama has stated that the budget for the President's Office in 2022 is excessive.
This year's budget has been boosted from GH¢ 700 million to GH¢ 3.1 billion, according to him.
In these challenging economic circumstances, Mr Mahama has urged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to reduce the budget for his office.
"Over the previous six years, the budget for the Office of the President has expanded from GH¢700 million to GH¢3.1bn in 2022," he tweeted on Tuesday, November 8.
"For expenditure optimization to be successful, it must first begin in the President's office," he continued. Slashing the budget can result in significant savings of GH¢1 billion."
His remarks come at a time when the administration is looking to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for assistance in addressing the economic issues.
Despite assertions to the contrary from some quarters, President Akufo-Addo believes that negotiations are proceeding smoothly.
