Did you ever believe that there are some plants that feed on animals? If the answer is no then stay tune and read this article for detailed explanation and some examples of these plants as well as areas they grow.
They are called Carnivorous Plants.
According Wikipedia, "Carnivorous plants are plants that derived some or most of their nutrients from trapping and consuming animals or protozoans, typically insects and other arthropods. However Carnivorous plants generate their energy from photosynthesis."
Per the above explanation, Carnivorous plants only feed on animals in order to get some or most of their their nutrients which were supposed to be taken from the soil. However they undergo photosynthetical processes.
There is a variety of these plants. Example of these plants are; the corkscrew plant, Portuguese sundew plan, etc.
In this article I'm going to discuss with you about some of these plants so keep reading till the end if you want to enjoy this lesson.
1. Darlingtonia Califonica.
This plant is also known as; California pitcher plant, cobra Lilly or cobra plant. It is native to North America and found in nutrient-poor areas. It belongs to the family of Sarraceniaceae and kingdom plantae.
This plant feeds on animals by luring, trapping and dissolving them with its pitcher shaped leaves. Insects are lured to slippery pitchers by color and nectar. Once the insect enters the bulbous of the pitcher it becomes disoriented by the translucent quality of the leaves.
2. Juncus effusus 'Spiralis'.

The leaves are usually arranged in basal rosette, and the upper leaf surfaces are covered with sticky, gland-tipped trichomes (plant hairs), and are often curled in bud. These leaves entrap and digest small insects and other small prey that steps on them.
3. Drosophyllum.
This also known as the Portuguese Sundew plant. It contains single Drosophyllum lusitanicum. It is similar to genus drosera and Byblis.
The gland produce nectar to attract insects, it has powerful adhesive to trap them and enzyme to digest preys. Once the insect is stuck, the nearby tentacles coil around the insect and smoother it and shown below.
4. Dionaea muscipula.
The Venus Flytrap. This plant is native to subtropical wetlands on the east coast of United States in North and South Carolina. It belongs to the classification of Dionaea, a kingdom of Plantae and a family of Droseraceae.
This plant snap shut its two-loved traps in a tenth of a second to capture an insect, which then digests. The process is as shown below..
