E-Levy Better than IMF; Aspiring NPP Chairman hopeful, Eastern Region.

In the face of widespread popular opposition to the E-levy, some commentators have suggested that seeking an IMF bailout would be a preferable option.

Paul Amaning, an aspirant for Eastern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has however reinforced demands for Ghanaians to support the electronic transaction levy (E-levy) bill. He believes the E-levy is a more credible option for addressing revenue gaps than suggestions that the country seeks an IMF bailout. He claimed that raising more revenue domestically, such as through the proposed E-levy, is the remedy for reviving the economy.

He explained that he doesn't believe we need to go to the IMF because two things will happen: policy descriptions will be changed, and the quantity of money we will receive will be less than half of what E-levy will provide. He suggested we engage in policy changes and measures that can be done in the country.
