A retired lecturer of the Ghana Technology University College who also doubles as the chief elect of Krom - Adwafo in the Bosomtwe District of Ashanti Region, Obenefo Nana Osei Piesie Anthoh has stressed the need for the government and other stakeholders in authority to invest in the local industries to help the developmental agenda of the country.
It is time the country should stop focus attention or relying on importation drive to keep the nation developed, the chief noted.
Speaking to the Opera News Content Writer King Amoah in an interview ahead of the International Day of Workers which occurs every May 1st, the former lecturer observed that as a country our focus should be on industrialization and how we can effectively invest in the local industries for job creation as well as revenue mobilization.
Nana indicated that through our importation drive Ghana is only supporting the employment base of the countries from where we import goods whilst killing the employment generation of our country.
Adding that such move contributes to the depreciation of the cedi before other currencies.
Obenefo Nana Osei Piesie reiterated that whilst we look forward for the government to take lead to develop the socio-economic infrastructural needs to benefit the private sector to enhance industrialization, Ghanaians were also advised to adopt habits to invest in the private sector for the benefit of the citizenry.
On the occasion the chief further urged the relevant stakeholders in the government to embark on sensitization and awareness creation for the citizens to patronize the Made In Ghana goods and services to help curb the patronage of foreign goods in the country.
Such awareness creation the former lecturer posited, if it is carried out, would go a long way to encourage the citizens to get the true meaning of domestication concept.
On this note the chief called on the advocacy groups, civil society organizations, faith-based groups, Non Governmental Organizastions, traditional leaders, and others to take lead in supporting government in the private sector investment towards the rapid socio - economic development of the country.
Concluding the chief also charged the youth, who are the future leaders to also support economic initiatives to ensure moving the country forward.
