The Government of Ghana through Youth Employment Agency (YEA) will on Wednesday April 7, 2021 sign agreement with the National Sports Authority (NSA) to extend existing financial support package for One Thousand (1,000) Elite Athletes instituted last year by another six (6) months.
The stimulus package was instituted by the government of Ghana to help athletes due to the hardships brought on them by Covid-19 pandemic a year ago.
Most of the athletes went through hell in 2020 because the sporting activities that fetch them financial backing were put on hold due to the outbreak of the Corona Virus
A total of one thousand (1,000) athletes were enrolled on the package which included 30 players each from the 18 women's Premier league clubs.
The signing ceremony will be graced by the Ministers of Youth and Sports, Labour and Employment, and CEO/DG of the two governmental agencies.
Meanwhile, reports in the local media has it that division one clubs have written to the Ghana Football Association to seek financial support from government else they cannot continue the league
