On Thursday, October 27, 2022 the former President John Dramani Mahama addressed the nation on the current economical state of the country at the UPSA Auditorium on the theme :”Building the Ghana we want”.
The current economic hardship in the country such as increase in prices of goods and services and the depreciation of the country’s currency, the Ghana Cedis to the dollar which has now become the highest in recent memory within a space of ten months.According to his address,Ghana as it stands now has become the country with the highest debt default having led to the gross downgrade by the international credit agencies.
As part of his solution to the current economic crisis, the former President John Dramani Mahama in his address urged the government to reduce the number of the country’s appointees and ministers in order to bring down the total expenditures and budget to be made by the government to a minimum amount.
Mr. John Dramani Mahama encouraged the government to demolish and realign the state institutions which are having the same functions and hold on to non vital projects.
The Chairman of the Economic Management Team (EMT), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the Finance Minister Ken Ofori- Atta have failed. With this reason Mr. John Dramani Mahama supported the urgent dismissal of the Finance Minister. He said this in no way will affect the negotiation between the government and the IMF as cited in joy news.
“To be clear, we are in this mess because of an untouchable Finance Minister relying on his Databank workers and neglecting the advice of seasoned experts at the Finance Ministry. He has been left to run this economy into the ground. We’re in this mess because of the so-called solid Economic Management Team, who over the last several years has been unable to call the President’s cousin (Ofori-Atta) to order when he embarked on a reckless borrowing spree”, he said in his address on Thursday, October 27, dubbed “building the Ghana we want.”
