ECOWAS postponed the Launch of Single Currency to 2027

ECOWAS Bloc postpones launch of single West African currency ECO to 2027.

The 15 members of Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) chaired by president Akuffo Addo of Ghana has once again revised the implementation date for a regional single currency, ECO. The currency which was first introduced in 2003 has been postponed several times to 2005, 2010, 2015, 2020 and now 2027.

The situation is becoming very appalling considering the number of times this has undergone postponment. The way forward for Africa and ECOWAS is to bring this currency into use, this will open opportunities for all the ECOWAS member countries to do business and strengthen Africa as well.

Does the procrastination of the implementation of the single West African single currency has to do with France's geo-political influence into some of the member states of the regional bloc (Francophonie countries)? I hate to use this word.

I believe it might likely be the biggest reason and challenge ECOWAS is facing now in bringing the Eco currency to use.
