When will the cedi be equal to the cedi? Many Ghanaians have asked themselves this question. It looked like it was going to happen back then, but it now appears that we are nowhere near equaling the dollar. Before I begin, let me tell you a short story about how the dollar rose.
The US dollar was sold for Gh 0.8550 at the beginning of democratic rule (Civilian rule) in September 2003 under the New Patriotic Party (NPP); under the administration of former President John Atta Mills, Cedis was sold at 1.4463 per Dollar, while he met it at 1.1595 per United States one(1) dollar.
On July 24, 2012, John Atta Mills died, and Ex-President John Dramani Mahama took over, and it was GH1.8969 under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration. Since then, the value of the cedi has continued to fall; as of today, 21st December 2021, the cedi is rated 6.14592.
1 USD = GH3.2 in November 2014, and from 2016 to the present, the rate has been depreciating, and the New Patriotic Party has suffered as a result.
According to today's foreign exchange rate, 100 dollars equals 100 Ghanaian cedis. You just converted one hundred dollars to Cedis using the most recent foreign exchange rate, which was 6.15 if approximated. That is, for a hundred dollars today, you get GH615.629.
Today, December 21st, the US Dollar is trading at a rate of 6.15 to the Cedis. The rate was 6.056 at the start of the week. on December 19th, 2021. In just two days, there has already been an increase.
When you look at it monthly, you'll notice that the Dollar to Cedis exchange rate was 6.02221 in early November 2021, and with the Dollar currently trading at 6.14592, we see a 0.12371 decrease in USD to Cedis exchange rates since the beginning of last November.
