They said 1D1F wasn’t possible – Akufo-Addo

One District One Factory (1D1F), an initiative being carried out by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-administration, Addo's is being celebrated.

He said that some people told him it wouldn't be possible when he first had the idea, but that now everyone is talking about how crucial it is for the Ghanaian economy to reduce its reliance on imported goods.

"The policy's overall goal is to have businesses and factories here in Ghana that will take the place of those coming from abroad.

"That is the policy's main objective. President Akufo-Addo, who recently began a three-day tour of the Eastern Region, declared, "Instead of importing XYZ, you're going to have them made here.

"When we wanted to implement 1D1F and certain strategic industrial policies, we were told it couldn't be done, but today everyone is talking about how important it is for the Ghanaian economy to lessen its dependence on foreign goods and foreign services," he continued.

Now that people have started to realize it, we really did have the foresight and knew exactly what needed to be done to bring about substantial progress—real progress, not intermittent progress, but substantial progress that will be strong and resilient. That is what I've noticed is still happening, he continued.

The project was a part of the government's plan to shift Ghana's economy away from one that is reliant on the import and export of raw materials and toward one that is driven by manufacturing, value addition, and export of processed goods.

The districts that would have otherwise gone to waste contain a large amount of these raw materials.

One hundred and twenty-five (125) of the two hundred and ninety-six (296) factories that have been built as part of the initiative's nationwide construction program have been completed.

I am optimistic that by the end of my term, the entire complement of 296 factories will be running, helping to provide quality domestic alternatives to the consumption needs of Ghanaians and significantly reducing our dependence on imports.

In the 1D1F program, we take into account the youth as managers and owners in addition to labor. In actuality, 58 of these factories are fully owned by young people who have received direct government assistance, he continued.
