Monday Daily Devotional Guide; Topic: Avoiding Debt - Read Through

Monda Daily Devotional Guide,

*Today's Topic: AVOIDING DEBT.

*Scripture Readings: Proverbs 22:7, Psalm 37:21, Proverbs 12:9

*Exposition:

Throughout scripture we see the imagery of domineering masters and subjugated servants. Sometimes the rules is harsh and the servants mistreated while other stories tell how the servants were treated well. Either way, they were still slaves. This is also true in our finances. You see, a slave does not have any choice. Debt could be a hole in our finances and make us slaves.

George Fisher once said "People buy things they don't need with the money they do not have to impress people they do not like". A lifestyle on pretending breeds debt because you are spending tomorrow's prosperity today. To avoid getting plunged into debt, you must avoid impulse or unplanned purchases. In that regard, if you buy things you do not need, you will soon have to sell things you need in order to sustain such a lifestyle. Instead of a life of pretending which leads to Living above your means, be content with what you have and have a financial plan. You need to plan for the big things of life: Education, Accommodation, Marriage, New business, Retirement, Financial Independence etc. You may need a budget to help you with planning. The purpose of budgeting is to ensure that you spend less than you earn so that you have a surplus to pay down debt and save for future needs. If you find yourself already in debt, it is not too late to make a re-direction and commitment to a life free of debt.

*Prayer: Father of all flesh, grant me the wisdom to plan and live beyond debt. Amen.

*MEMORY VERSE FOR THE WEEK, Matthew 25:21 (NKJV) - "His Lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord. '''
