Fake palm oil mixed with expired paint allegedly floods the market, be careful when buying palm oil

Oil is an inevitable ingredient in many Ghanaian delicacies. Though there are now few factories that are producing palm oil in commercial quantities, the market of oil production is dominated by small individual holdings that do it on a small-scale basis. Their activities are regulated by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), but due to logistics and other constraints, the FDA is unable to effectively supervise the activities of such entrepreneurs.

A picture implicating certain producers of palm oil who allegedly dilute the products with paint in other to enhance their profit is circulating on Facebook. In the photo, the palm oil which is mixed with expired paint has reportedly flooded the market. This may have been sold to unsuspecting Ghanaians who properly are suffering from one illness or the other as a result.

It is my humble appeal that you try as much as possible to buy your palm oil from reliable sources and be vigilant to falling prey to the schemes of those fraudulent producers. I urge the FDA and other stakeholders to up their game to arrest the perpetrators to book.
