NPA Braces up To Regulate Business In Downstream Petroleum Sector

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) is taking steps to regulate “gaogao” operators in the petroleum distribution chain.

According to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the NPA, Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid it has become difficult to check the operations of the “gaogao” because their work is cantered in the remote areas and also their work is mobile.

Irrespective of the challenge, Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid said the Authority is doing everything possible to regulate their operations and uproot the recalcitrant ones who are not ready to go by NPA terms.

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) is taking steps to regulate “gaogao” operators in the petroleum distribution chain.

According to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the NPA, Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid it has become difficult to check the operations of the “gaogao” because their work is cantered in the remote areas and also their work is mobile.

Irrespective of the challenge, Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid said the Authority is doing everything possible to regulate their operations and uproot the recalcitrant ones who are not ready to go by NPA terms.

He revealed that a meeting had been held with the leadership of the “gaogao” operators and it was agreed that, they will look for OMCs to partner so as to get well equipped infrastructure for their operations.

Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid was interacting with Editors on Monday, 27th September, 2021.

According to him, the engagement with the Editors was to strengthen their already existing relationship with the media.

Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid indicated that the NPA is always ready to give clarity on issues regarding the Petroleum downstream sector, regulations, Gas cylinder recirculation model, and pricing among others.

He averred that there is an effective collaboration between the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) and the Ghana Standard Authority, over the quality of petrol the authority provide to the people of Ghana.

He also talked about the unstable pricing and the deregulation regime and averred that the Authority is working closely with the National Security to address the issue of the “gaogao” business.

 He also said, there is a system in place that checks the pricing and the quality of fuel.

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid was there with other Directors of the Authority who also threw more light on issues that the media raised during the encounter.
