The Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC) has announced new tariffs for water and electricity for the period covering 2022 to 2025.

Beginning September 1, 2022, end-user electricity tariff will go up by 27.15 per cent while water will also be increased by 21.55 per cent.

Announcing the new tariffs at a news conference in Accra on Monday, the Executive Secretary of the PURC, Dr Ishmael Ackah, said the PURC considered factors such as the exchange rates, inflations, network expansion, upgrades, investment in operations and maintenance of service delivery infrastructure as well as the financial viability of the service providers.

Considering the demand made by the Utility Companies, the new tariff adjustment, Dr Ackah said, are sensitive and responsive to the concerns raised by stakeholders.

The new tariff adjustment, he said, are in line with section 3C PURC Act 1997 (ACT 538).

The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWL) demanded 300 percentage increment in end-user water tariffs while the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCO) asked for 148 per cent and 113 percent, respectively.
