Obtain Requisite Documents- Ketu- South MCE Cautions "Sand Winning" Contractors

Ketu South Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) , Maxwell Kofi Lugudor has cautioned contractors engaged in unauthorized and illegal sand winning activities in the Municipality to acquire the requisite documents and Business Operating Permits (BOP) from the Lands Commission, Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources etc before engaging such activities to avoid sanctions.

Mr. Lugudor was speaking in an interview with Aflao based HOLY 98.5 FM monitored by The Transporter.

He said his outfit was aware that some individuals involved in sand winning in some parts of the municipality did not have the legal documentation for their activities and so should desist from mining illegally as any body found culpable will be dealt with according to law.

In his quest to provide a lasting solution to this issues which may pose a danger the socio-economic activities in the Municipality, the MCE says he is in talks with the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, other relevant agencies and the law enforcement authorities to ensure that these activities were regulated with Business Operating Permits duly issued.

Meanwhile about 30 acres of destroyed lands due to activities of the Tipper Truck Owners and Drivers Association are being reclaimed by the municipality with the efforts of the Association and other stakeholders.

In order to reclaim the degraded land, Maxwell Lugudor said the Forestry Commission will be engaging in reclaiming the land by the planting of trees such as acacia and coconut and this also in future will help those in the localities to earn some income from the produce of these trees.

“Currently work on reclaiming of the destroyed lands is ongoing - if you visit the affected areas. We decided to put the degraded land back to shape". He added.
