The President today, Friday, July 9, 2021 commissioned the lavish and much talked about Pokuase Interchange. There has been so much talk about the builder of the Interchange. Whereas some say John Mahama secured the money to fund it, others say credit should go to President Akufo-Addo for the work and completion. Social media has been awash with so many comments regarding that.
President Akufo-Addo commissioned the Pokuase Interchange to the joy of all and sundry. He however made some important statement that will leave many still thinking. In his address he mentioned that the ruling NPP have spent less in Interchanges as compared to the John Mahama led government.
“We have spent less on 4 interchanged as compared to the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange of the Mahama administration. This shows that we are better managers of the public purse” Akufo-Addo said. The NPP have insisted that the NDC used $260 million in building the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange alone as compared to their $289 million for 4 Interchanges of Tema, Tamale, Obetsebi Lamptey and Pokuase. The NPP have explained that with the $260 million spent on a single interchange they could have built more if the NDC were proper managers.
Sammy Gyamfi had also debunked those assertions and said that the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange cost $70 million but after this a separate loan to construct a Fly Over added an additional cost of $190 million and this was what shot the number to $260 million. He asserts that that particular interchange only cost the country $70 million. The Pokuase Interchange cost $84 million to construct.
Social media is raving with views over who the builder of the Pokuase Interchange really is. Perhaps the 2 leaders of John Mahama and President Akufo-Addo should accept plaudits for it. However, their supporters think otherwise. Check out some of the comments.
