The Deputy Agricultural Minister, Hon. George Oduro has on Tuesday announced that the government of Ghana has from today, Tuesday, 14th September 2021 issued a directive to all the security at our borders that, the government has suspended the exportation of agricultural products outside the country.
The Minister made this revelation when he was interviewed on Joy News' afternoon trending news.
The rationale behind this suspension is as a result of the current price hikes on foodstuffs and its related food shortages.
The Minister disclosed that this has become necessary for this drastic decision to be taken so the citizens can enjoy the scanty farm products available.
He also added that the country has of late been battling with the acquisition of farm inputs, especially, fertilizer. This is no doubt worsens the current situation.
The country cannot afford to starve and if this decision is not immediately taken, we will have to gather huge sums of money to import foodstuffs that will not be in the interest of the country.
This news seems to confirm the recent speculation that most Senior High Schools have been hit by food shortages in the country of which the Ministry of Education vehemently denied.
