
The British High Commission has just raised the excitement of many Ghanaians as they announce their aim of revamping the Volta Star Textiles Limited in the North Tongu district of the Volta Region.
The North Tongu Member of Parliament (MP), Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, took the British High Commissioner, H.E Harriet Thompson, on a tour at the facility. The tour was for the British High Commissioner to establish a piece of first-hand information.
The Volta Star Textiles Company which was founded somewhere in the 1960s used to employ over 3000 workers. The company used to produce about 20 million yards of yarn every year. Harriet Thompson however promised to get investors wherever possible to help to revamp the factory.
The facility is currently reported to be producing only produces 6 million yards annually which is 70% less than the 20 million yards target. The reason for the low production is due to the old machinery at the factory and many other factors.
