“We wish to acknowledge that there have been genuine challenges relating to the supply of some specific food commodities and wish to assure that frantic efforts have been underway to address the concerns raised, particularly in ensuring adequate and regular supply of food to the schools. It is our fervent hope that the challenges will be resolved in a timeous manner in order to avert any potential closure of our schools,” NAFCO stated.
The National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) has pledged that they are on putting everything in place to tackle the various challenges with the activity of food supply to various schools across the country.
The company believes that these challenges currently faced by the schools will be resolved soon with immediate effect to prevent any unwanted outcome.
Meanwhile the teacher unions had earlier on petitioned the government and other educational stakeholders to ensure the supply of food items to various Senior High Schools as soon as possible.
They claimed to have complain to the Ministry of Education for funds to run the various Senior High School in the country.
An except from the statement made by the teacher Union;
“The situation at the SHSs is critical and has brought the SHSs on their knees owing to the delays in releasing the GOG funds, non-supply of food items by the Buffer Stock Company and compounded by the early reporting at school at the beginning of each term, compared to the period preceding the Free SHS, now students no longer have to wait for school fees to be provided them before reporting to school.”
Another disturbing factor aside the the food supply is the issues with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) supply. These PPEs are important as far as the fight of the coronavirus is concerned and so if these students are not having it then it isn't a good thing.
I believe that other support from the general public wouldn't be a bad idea.
