Monday Rain Causes Serious Flooding At Kumasi Central Market

Kejetia market floods after heavy rains – Republic Media Online

Severe flooding at the Kumasi Central Market in the Ashanti Region has ruined goods worth over ten billion old cedis.

As water swamped their region early Monday morning, some 300 businesses stocked with wax prints, groceries, kitchen products, children's apparel, assorted drinks, and food items, among other things.

Around 1,500 hens were lost in the flood, according to some of the impacted traders who spoke with OTEC News' Kwame Agyenim Boateng.

Meanwhile, the traders accused the contractor working on the second phase of the Kejetia Redevelopment project of clogging drains in the vicinity.

“It was very scary, this is the third time we are experiencing such a deluge in the last month.”

“We have lost almost all our capital to the perennial flooding and nothing is been done about the situation,” one of the victims, Maa Victoria cried.

According to them, the circumstance caused the river Subin to break its banks and flood the market.

They have thus pleaded with the Kumasi Metropolis officials to urgently engage with the contractor and take the necessary action to stop the flood.
