EC Cancels Underwriter Framework

The Electing Commission (EC) has annulled the underwriter framework where new registrants without the Ghana Card gave two Ghana Card holders as underwriters for their Citizen's ID card.

This structures part of clearing changes the commission is setting up to safeguard the trustworthiness of the electors' register and the ID card. The Agent Director of the EC Accountable for Activities, Samuel Tettey, spread the word about this for writers at the EC's "Let the Resident Know" experience.

The abolishment will produce results after the development of Established Instrument which is yet to be laid before Parliament. The Instrument is trying to make the Ghana Card the main report for getting a citizen's ID card.

He showed that the underwriter framework is laden with many difficulties and could never again give a safe arrangement of citizen enlistment for the country.

New Register

Mr. Tettey invalidated claims that the Electing Commission was set to gather another register, showing that it is somewhat embraced a nonstop enrollment and desires to every year catch somewhere in the range of 450,000 and 550,000 likely registrants.

"We won't gather another citizens register. Rather, we would consistently enlist citizens to refresh the ongoing electors register to guarantee that any individual who needs to enroll as an elector has the chance to do as such.

"This enlistment practice not at all like the past enrollment exercise will be nonstop. In that capacity, anybody who has the card can simply stroll to our workplaces and register. It's anything but an occasional or restricted enrollment practice that could disappoint people who don't have a Ghana Card at the hour of the restricted activity. This is a lasting through the year interaction. In that capacity, an individual who doesn't have the Ghana Card today can obtain it tomorrow and basically stroll into a locale office where the person expects to cast a ballot and register," he made sense of.

Mr. Tettey likewise exposed tales that Ghanaians will cast a ballot with the Ghana Card in 2024.

"The card is just a prerequisite to enlist as an elector for the people who have not recently enrolled as citizens. When you present your Ghana Card and effectively register as a citizen, you will be given an elector recognizable proof card which bears the highlights of the EC; in particular, the code of your locale, region, discretionary region, and surveying station.

"We expect every one of the players in the discretionary cycle including ideological groups to support every one of the people who don't have a Ghana Card to visit the workplaces of the Public Recognizable proof Power and register for the Ghana Card, after which they can likewise enlist with the Electing Commission to empower them vote in the 2023 Locale Gathering Decisions and the 2024 General Races," he expressed.

He, in this manner, asked the Public Recognizable proof Power (NIA) to accelerate the printing of Ghana Cards to empower forthcoming citizens to enroll to cast a ballot.
