The Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto saluted all hardworking farmers and workers on the workers day celebration, last Saturday on his Facebook page.
According to him, he has started a journey with the Farmers since 2017, with policies and projects. The aim of their journey is to make the lives of the farmers count, and making farming the engine of growth in Ghana’s development.
In addition, he acknowledged that, the Agriculture Industry is on the way to the right destination, but not there yet. He promised to be with the farmers via all the value chains in the country, till everyone is fed well across the nation.
Ghanaians has reacted to the message of the Minister in diverse ways. People are congratulating him, pleading to reduce prices, request, and contributing on how to make the industry develop.
There is a concern about the rise in prices of farm inputs, which is affecting their businesses. The concern of the Veterinary Grandaunts is raised, as they are yet to be employed.
Another person made the suggestion that, the government should stop burning the excavators seized from illegal miners. Rather, the Minister should initiate the use of the excavators to construct irrigation dams and canals for all season farming.
This will aid the production of cash crops and other farm foods for export and feeding the country. It will lessen the high level of importation in the Agriculture Industry in the country. The concern about even importing large number of the tomatoes we used in the country, will reduce drastically.
