The current phenomenon of galamsey poses a big threat to these value addition efforts by Government. It has the real potential to taint the gold d'ore which will be fed the refinery thereby making it extremely difficult to meet the responsible sourcing requirements and by extension the output capacity.
The fight against illegal mining, also known as "galamsey," is being led by President of the Republic Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and he claims it is unprecedented.
The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was informed by the President on Sunday at the Manhyia Palace.

He emphasized that "no government has shown commitment to the fight against galamsey than my government." This was said by President Akufo-Addo on the first day of his four-day visit to the Ashanti Region.
He is expected to check on construction at the Boankra integrated logistics facility, popularly known as the Boankra inland port. Additionally, he will examine the Agenda 111 project at Kokoben.
