A hardworking cocoa farmer who also doubles as the chief of Assin Boba Krokuruwa in the Assin North District, Nana Adjei Ababio II, has expressed his worry about efforts he put in growing cocoa for the country to export but has had no opportunity of eating cocoa products especially chocolate from the government. According to the chief, he has not seen chocolate before and therefore wants the Ghana Cocobod to bring him and his subjects some chocolates.
The Chief disclosed this at an Environmental Social Health Sustainability program organised in the district on Wednesday 3rd March, 2021 purposely to empower women in cocoa farming to make them independent and assertive.
The chief made this passionate appeal to the government and Cocobod to bring some items made from cocoa especially chocolate to distribute them to the people in his community. This will make them feel the real benefit of the cocoa they have grown.
The Central Regional Principal Technical Officer of Cocoa Health and Extension Division (COCOBOD), Mr Felix Quainoo expressed the preparedness of his office to support and empower women in cocoa farming within the region. He also encouraged women to continue to work as cocoa farmers to contribute their quota to the cocoa industry He added that Cocobod has better plans for women in the cocoa farming and advised women to join various cocoa cooperatives in their locality.
The Municipal Director of Cocoa Health and Extension Division at Assin Fosu, Mr Samuel Tsatsu made it clear that, local farmers are not willing to use cocoa products such as Chocolates, Milo, chocolim, Cocoa Powder etc. According to Mr Samuel, these items can easily be bought from the local market. He encouraged local cocoa farmers to patronise items made from cocoa.
