If We Are Denied This Revenue, It Will Affect Our Operations Because We Are Paid Out Of It- ECG

Illegal connection to gain access to electricity or electrical power is quite common in Ghana and most electricians are culprits of this particular act. Some Ghanaians who are found to have connected illegally give excuses such as high or extreme charges from the company of which they make complaints to the company but never gets resolved so they go ahead and do their own thing in order to escape such huge charges from the company.

Even though these acts are punishable by law, most people still go ahead and do such illegal connections. The Electricity Company of Ghana as part of its campaign against power theft has disconnected at least 50 households from the National Grid in Kasoa in the Central Region These culprits have been threatened to be taken to court to face the law.

The Central Regional Revenue Protection Manager for ECG Ebenezer Yaw Fiadoh said the illegal practice has affected their operations and revenue negatively. He said, if they are denied this revenue, it affects their operations because they are paid out of it. The landlords are to be blamed for this act because the properties belong to them, he added.
