Ghana, like all other countries, is hit with the novel coronavirus. This deadly pandemic started wreaking havoc in 2019 before finally entering Ghana in 2020. The nature of the pandemic precipitated a lockdown in some major cities in Ghana. As we all know, the majority of Ghanaians leave on the daily bread they get from daily work. This prompted many to complain and others too beseeched the government to help by relieving burdens with some amount.

I recently got my relief amount and I think you should know and know how I qualified for one. Before the release from the lockdown, the government launched a loan scheme. It was essentially enacted to disburse funds to applicants with registered businesses.

The scheme, dubbed “Nkosuo loan,” targeted at distributing GHS90 millions among 25,000 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Immediately after I heard this, I quickly went online and searched for the application portal. I applied with my entertainment agency and Tax Identification Number and kept my fingers crossed.

I doubted the money will come because Mrs Kosi Yankey-Ayeh, Executive Director of this poverty alleviation scheme, indicated that her board has oversubscribed the application. Over 400,000 additional application were received from interested businesses seeking to get the GHS90 million. These 400,000 applications represent 60 per cent oversubscription which travels the total amount to GHS2 billion.

But to my surprise, my mobile money alert came and it was from the poverty alleviation outfit. Ghanaians can have my assurance that the money is real and it truly comes to those that meet their requirements.

This government has done impressive work for the nation in this difficult time. I don’t intend to hold brief for them or campaign for them but if we criticize their wrongs, we must also praise their good efforts as well.
